Meeting Minutes
November 17, 2008
Chairperson Helen
Weingart called the meeting to order at 7:02 PM. Present were Board members June Rose, Diane
Cox, Sharyn Rusch, Dianne Beer, Betty Urban and Kitty LeShay (7:15). Others present was Assistant Librarian
Jessica Jahnke. Unable to attend was
Board member Bill Jenkins and Rebecca Stockdale-Woolley and Library Director
Gerre Helmer.

AUDIENCE FOR
CITIZENS:
Citizen Patrick Pothier is curious about the Library Board and has helped with the Book Sale. Helen Weingart suggested Mr. Pothier run the “Friends of the Library”, a support arm that assists with fundraising.

APPROVAL OF
MINUTES: October 20, 2008
Motion to approve the minutes of
October 20, 2008 was made by Dianne Beer with the following correction: Item #7A should read – Sharyn Rusch
and Dianne Beer for the May Book Sale. The
motion was seconded by Sharyn Rusch and carried with one abstention by June
Rose.

Report:
Circulation for the month of October is 602.

The Special Revenue balance as of 11/19/08 is $9,129.40.
The budget is in good shape with
the building maintenance over due to heating/cooling. Electricity is shared 50% with the
Jessica Jahnke presented a quote from Verso Automation. The bar codes are compatible and many towns use the system. The presented system is outdated and doesn’t work. More information is need regarding the number of titles, interactive control, patron user interface, library splash page, content enrichment, installation costs and upgrade costs. Diane Cox asked if there were any alternatives to this program or available grant funds. Bibliomation is another company that is costly and not bar code compatible. Helen Weingart will provide website to Patrick Pothier for grant resources.
A group of Preschoolers came to the library for a tour.
Jessica Jahnke suggested the Birds of Prey program with live owls and raptors which would be good for all ages. June Rose suggested a Bake Sale/Silent Auction.
B.
Board Chair
Report:
The toilet that has been broken for some time has been repaired. Helen Weingart presented a customer communication log that will be posted for the cleaning crew.
There will be no Train Show this year per Jack Collins.
Helen Weingart asked for program recommendations for the February Vacation. Carolyn Stearns is a local storyteller with a focus on the Civil War. Jessica Jahnke will provide a list of story topics from Carolyn Stearns for the next meeting.

Members Report:
Thanks to Kitty LeShay and Rebecca Stockdale-Woolley for Fire Safety Day which was very helpful to those in attendance.
Thanks to Sharyn Rusch for the successful Puppet Show that was well attended.
Diane Cox suggested having Chaplin resident Sandra Horning, author of “The Giant Hug” for an adult program in March or May. Helen Weingart also suggested author Wally Lamb who has just released a new book “The Hour I First Believed”.
Tea tasting will be held Wednesday at 7:00 PM.
