 POLICE SERVICES FOR THE TOWN OF CHAPLIN

The Willimantic Police Department and Connecticut State Police/Troop D gave presentations to the Town of Chaplin residents to discuss what services can be offered for our resident Trooper Program.  The presentations below discuss in detail what services will be provided, training requirements for the officers, cost to the Town for these services, historical statistics for the Town and details on future plans to keep Chaplin a safe community for the residents. 

The Board of Selectmen will have a discussion on the proposals at a Special Board of Selectmen meeting scheduled for October 16, 2019 at 7:00pm at the Senior Center to include Audience for Citizens.

Summary of Proposal for Willimantic Police Services 2019

Animal Control

As of January 1, 2014 Northeastern Connecticut Council of Governments (NECCOG) will provide animal control services to Chaplin's residents.  NECCOG always has an Animal Control Officer (ACO) on duty.  Calls, during regular business hours are taken by the NECCOG switchboard and then processed to provide a timely response.  Calls taken after hours and on weekends are taken by the answering service.  Based on the nature of the call, the ACO may be called immediately (animal hit by car) or it may be held for action (barking dog) during regular business hours.

The program is available 24/7/365 and there is always an Animal Control Officer (ACO) on duty.  Calls during regular business hours are taken by the NECCOG switchboard and then processed to provide a timely response.  Calls taken after hours and on weekends are taken by the answering service.  Based on the nature of the call the ACO may be called immediately (animal hit by car) or it may be held for action (barking dog) during regular business hours.

The NECCOG staff includes a full-time ACO who also serves as the program director (this person has more than 25 years experience in animal control), two part-time ACO's and secretarial/administrative staff through NECCOG.

Reminder: June is time to register your dogs. This can be done at the Town Clerk's office in the Chaplin Town Hall, located at 495 Phoenixville Road.  The Clerk's office hours are Mon, Wed and Thurs 9-3 and Tues 1-7, closed on Friday.
